Frequently asked questions
What we get asked most — about the paper, the sizes, shipping, and how our designs come about.
Buying
Can I buy directly from Kunstkutter?
No — this website is our shop window, it has no checkout. You buy in one of the shops we link to from every design: on Etsy as a printed poster or as a digital download, at JUNIQE framed or on other materials, and at Displate as a metal poster. Payment, shipping and any questions about your order go through the shop you bought from.
Why three shops — which one is right for me?
Because each of them is good at something different. Etsy is our main shop: paper posters in many sizes, and files ready to download right after purchase. JUNIQE is worth it if you want the picture ready-framed or on canvas, acrylic glass or aluminium Dibond. Displate prints straight onto steel; a metal poster like that hangs on a magnet, with no drilling. Not every design is available in every shop — the design page says what there is.
How do I pay, and who issues the invoice?
Both are handled by the shop you buy from: it takes the payment and issues the receipt. We are a small business under § 19 of the German VAT Act and do not show VAT ourselves; whether and how much tax applies to your purchase is decided by the shop according to your country and shown at its checkout.
Posters and files
What paper are the posters printed on?
On 200 gsm paper, semi-matt and colourfast. Semi-matt means it barely reflects, even with light coming in from the side. On top of that comes a coating against fading from light and moisture. Depending on the format, the trim may vary very slightly.
Who prints the posters?
The printing is done by a partner who does nothing else: Gelato, based in Oslo, with print shops in many countries — so your poster is made as close to the delivery address as possible. We picked the paper ourselves beforehand, after test prints, and nothing is printed until you order.
What sizes are there?
The range runs from 13 × 18 cm up to A0 at 84.1 × 118.9 cm, in inch formats as well as DIN formats. Which sizes exist for a particular design is shown on its design page — that list comes straight from our Etsy shop, so it is always the one you get there.
Is a frame included?
Not with the poster from Etsy: you get the printed sheet, without a frame and without a white border for mounting. The frame in our photos only shows how the design works on a wall; the frames, furniture and plants in them are not part of the product. If you want it ready-framed, the way to go is JUNIQE — with frames in wood, aluminium or plastic, with an optional mount.
May I hang the poster in an office or a café?
Yes. The posters are meant for living spaces and for business premises, so an office, a practice or a café is fine. The rights to the design itself stay with us: copying, reselling or building it into your own products is not allowed.
What may I do with the download files?
You may print them for yourself and hang them up — at home just as much as on business premises, in an office or café for instance. What is not allowed is passing the files on or reselling them, not even as part of a product of your own.
What do I get with the digital download?
JPG files at 300 dpi, one aspect ratio for every common frame:
- 2:3 — 20 × 30 cm, for example
- 3:4 — 30 × 40 cm, for example
- 4:5 — 40 × 50 cm, for example
- 5:7 — 25 × 35 cm, for example
The resolution is enough for A0. For a few of our earliest designs the selection is smaller; exactly what the bundle contains is stated with the listing in the shop. The files are ready on Etsy right after purchase: no shipping, no waiting. The link stays available for at least 30 days after purchase. Please download the files within that time and save them on your device.
Will the colours at home look like they do on screen?
Almost, but not exactly. A screen shines by itself, paper only returns the light that is in the room — printed colours therefore look a little calmer than on a monitor. We tune every design for contrast and colour mood before printing, so that it carries on paper.
Shipping and delivery
How long until my poster arrives?
We print to order: as a rule your poster is ready to ship within one to two working days. It is printed at the partner print shop closest to your delivery address — after that it usually reaches you within one to seven days, depending on the country. It ships crease-free, rolled in sturdy protective packaging.
How does the poster arrive?
Rolled and crease-free in sturdy shipping packaging, without a frame. It is printed and sent by the partner print shop closest to your delivery address. After unpacking, the paper tends to curl back a little: leave it flat under a few books for a day or two and it will lie smooth in the frame. As a seller we are registered in the German packaging register LUCID.
What does shipping cost?
That depends on the design and on the destination country — every design page lists the main countries, and at the Etsy checkout you see the amount for your address before you buy. Digital downloads have no shipping cost.
Can I return a poster?
Yes. For printed posters you have a right of withdrawal of 14 days from receipt; you pay the cost of returning it. If a poster is damaged or faulty, you will of course get a replacement or your money back, just write to us with photos. For digital prints, the right of withdrawal ends once the download has been provided and you have agreed to this at checkout.
Do you ship abroad?
Yes. Besides Germany we ship to Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, the United Kingdom and Australia, among others. Etsy shows the shipping cost per country before you buy.
The designs and us
Are the designs made with AI?
For the imagery we work with AI tools as well — the way we work with a camera, a pen and an image editor. They deliver drafts for us to choose from. After that comes the handwork: tuning colours and contrast, removing artefacts, correcting details, recomposing where the composition does not carry, setting type, bringing format and resolution up to print quality. No design leaves us the way it comes out of a generator, and no program decides what is good enough.
Who is behind Kunstkutter?
The two of us: Elena and Martin from Hamburg. No publisher and no agency — we create the designs, work them out and decide what gets to go on a wall. The full details about us are in the legal notice.
Are new designs added?
Yes, regularly. On the overview of all designs the newest ones are at the top, and the theme and room filters sort them by what they suit.
Can I ask you something that is not here?
Gladly — about sizes, about shipping or about a special wish. The quickest way is a message through our Etsy shop; we usually reply within 24 hours. By email you can reach us at kunstkutter@gmail.com.
